The winter has been long, cold, with much snow.
It had its own kind of beauty, such pristine white,
Clinging to trees, posts, roofs, wires and cars.
It was a beautiful frost white carpet.
Unblemished until a car drove down the street
And sand and other stuff was sprinkled on it
Which is necessary for safety, doesn’t beautify
Only makes sloppy, ugly messes.
As spring nears, the sun is getting warmer
Snow drifts and banks are shrinking, melting.
As they shrink, so much dirt appears.
How could that dirt be in that fluffy white stuff?
As snow melts, many puddles form and run in streams.
Sometimes making it difficult to navigate
Then it freezes at night, making it treacherous underfoot.
Oh, the agonies of changing seasons.
As the snow decreases, so the dirt increases,
Making spring a very ugly season until
A rain comes and cleans everything up
To show the beauty of flowers, leaves and grass.
I think God gives us the ugly to help us
More fully appreciate the beautiful
If we always had the beautiful, it would become
Too commonplace to pay it any attention.
Enjoy each day and make it beautiful.
