Nothing unusual about the afternoon,
She decided to pick raspberries
On an abandoned farm.
Suddenly, there was a crash and
something running.
Nothing could be seen
Had a deer been startled and ran
Or could it have been a bear,
Perhaps with a cub.
If the latter is thew case,
She didn’t want to chance
Being between Mama bear
And her frisky cub.
The decision was made
To go to a wild blueberry patch
Where she’d picked berries before.
The berries were ripe and plentiful.
After picking berries a short while,
A squirrel sitting on a stump
Started chattering, as squirrels will,
Flicking its tail and watching.
This startled the lady,
She knew not why.
She decided if her nerves were so edgy
She’d better leave the berry patch,
Out in an isolated forest area
Before she did something stupid
And got lost, causing a search,
Just because of a squirrel chattering.
